I use Itunes for all my music but I store all my music on an external drive but even if you store it on your C drive it should work the same. When you open your itnues click on the "file" name in the top hand right corner, then click on add file or folder, I do it by folder. Once you click on that a screen will come up prompting you to tell itunes where you want to bring the files from. If it is in "my music" area on your C drive then just scroll through and find the folder you want to import and then it automatically does it for you. If you have your music on an external drive then do the exact same thing. Hope this helps. I then go in to the file highlight it fix what I want the album to be and give it cover art mostly found from the deadlists project.!

Thanks .. honest that's exactly what I've done in the past. I've got some other weird problem, obviously.

I do remember that the last few times I downloaded a show from sugarmegs, it said the file wasn't in the right format, asked "Do you want to convert it etc"- I clicked yes and it proceeded to convert. Now, that is not happening. It just sits there. Something is outta whack.

Googling around I find lots of people moaning about this same problem and the advice to reinstall itunes. Arrrrrgggggghh

Actually, this won't be hard to do: if you delete current itunes, you can "dump" it, and then when you plug in your ipod, it'll prompt you to DL the current version, like the first time, easily, and now you'll have the screens scroll by that you can select "manual" (you control everything) rather than "sync" if you want to take this approach (which is easier, IMHO, even for us Luddites, esp if you have mult files/folders, some of which are utlimately used for your ipod, but others you want to keep sep; again, if you use one computer for all your music biz).

BTW, prior to deletion, you can "find" your itunes library by poking around on your "C" (usu) hard-drive, and see it's a huge folder with all tunes as MP3, if you've been letting it do things for you, convert all songs you "put" into it, etc., etc. You can "copy this folder", your itunes library, and ultimately dump it back into your "new itunes" system that you've reinstalled, as above.

I've done this a handful of times, esp because the family has often been using one puter for mult. ipods (this is esp impt vis-a-vis the "sync" option...can you imagine the wife's reaction when her ipod was "sync'd" to the DEAD library for mine? Yikes!).

I think there's an inspiration for Cliff for another video ... Why is there Grateful Dead on my ipod. I want a divorce.

Thanks for all the advice. I will save it, but I can't face reinstalling itunes right now. Mind you I am focusing in an absurd way on a small difficulty with my ipod as an excuse not to tackle 400 things that I need to do that are actually important.

"An excuse not to tackle the 400 things I need to do that are actually important"

I'm pretty sure that was the original name of this forum.
